From Recycling to Earth Preservation: A Series of Eco-Events at Uzhhorod National University

On March 19, an event for UzhNU students took place – an evening eco-dialogue titled "Sorting That Works", with lecturer Anna Sabadosh. During the discussion, students shared their thoughts on environmental conservation methods, discussed their personal experiences, and addressed the challenges they face in waste sorting within their local communities.

This interactive format not only helped participants better understand the importance of waste sorting but also allowed them to recognize their personal role in environmental preservation and its promotion. Often, we want to start making a change but lack confidence, knowledge, or simple motivation. Events like this serve as an inspiration to move forward, explore new perspectives, and stay engaged in environmental protection efforts.

We were pleasantly surprised by the openness, enthusiasm, and engagement of the students—lively discussions and genuine interest in the topic proved that such meetings are essential. Every participant received answers to their questions and left the event feeling motivated.

On March 20, the already traditional ecological initiative "Uzhhorod for a Clean Environment" took place. Its goal is to draw attention to waste sorting and shift the perception of waste from mere trash to a valuable resource. The event conditions remained unchanged: for all properly sorted waste—plastic, paper, glass, and batteries—participants received valuable eco-gifts.

The collected recyclables were delivered to the "Secondary Raw Materials Collection Station, Proektna 3" and then sent for further recycling.

All events were organized as part of the collaboration between the public organization "Zelenyi Varosh" and the Innovation and Development Center of Uzhhorod National University, with the support of the Department of Youth, Culture, and Sports of the Uzhhorod City Council.

Environmental education in Zakarpattia plays a crucial role in raising ecological awareness across different age groups, promoting waste sorting, and reducing pollution in the region. Ultimately, this contributes to reducing environmental pollution in neighboring countries, particularly waste carried by rivers.
