Main International Environmental Campaign on the Borzhava River: Volunteers Collected Over 1.6 Tons of Waste in Verkhni Remety

On March 27–28, 2026, a large-scale cleanup of the Borzhava River shoreline took place in the village of Verkhni Remety, Berehove District, Zakarpattia region. The environmental initiative was organized by the NGO “Ecological Movement Colored Bins”, led by Viktor Buchynskyi.

Over the course of two days, 20 volunteers joined forces with a shared goal — preserving the cleanliness of the environment and protecting one of the region’s important rivers.

As a result of the campaign, volunteers collected:

  • 800 kg of plastic bottles;
  • 700 kg of glass waste;
  • 156 kg of municipal waste;
  • 8.5 kg of plastic caps.


In total, more than 1.6 tons of waste were removed from the riverbank area. This initiative became not only a significant contribution to improving the environmental condition of the region, but also a strong example of environmental responsibility and community engagement.

Representatives of the NGO “Ecological Movement Colored Bins” expressed their sincere gratitude to all volunteers for their dedication, hard work, and commitment. Special thanks were also extended to the Berehove Community Center “Everyone Can Help” for its active participation and support in organizing the environmental action.

According to the organization, this cleanup would not have been possible without the support of their long-term partners and friends from Hungary — Diageo within the framework of the CALL ACTION project, as well as the environmental organization PET KUPA. International cooperation and joint efforts continue to play a crucial role in addressing river pollution and promoting environmental awareness.

The Borzhava River cleanup has become another inspiring example of international unity aimed at protecting nature and preserving clean transboundary rivers.

The organizers also emphasized the importance of responsible household waste sorting and called on communities to work together toward a cleaner and healthier future for the next generations.
